So, actually, for my story, I went to university in China for two years and it changed to University called Weber State University to finish my bachelor's degree. I majored being economics and accounting so, in that way, I understand how the data works and how companies record their own data like an accounting system. After that, I went back to China and tried to start my own company with my friend. We have really amazing business idea but on a way of our finding our founder, we don't have people to give us money to invest on us because we don't have enough data to convince them or enough strategy to convince them to invest in us. That's why I think I needed some other skill to help me to improve my convincing skills like data analysis, data visualization, using data to convince other people to believe in my idea or to believe in my prediction idea. I think that became my motivation here.
So for the master's degree for the MSBA program here in the University of Utah, most classes are divided into two parts. One part is data, one part is the programming. So for data part is more like, how you find data, which is data mining, how you treat data, data analysis and how you present your data to your potential customers, like data visualization, and for programming, it's like all the programming related to data like R or Python so basically, all kind of classes like this. For my favorite, I think my favorite is all the programming computer languages I will learn because as an international student, it's really challenging to learn a new language. It's even more challenging for me to learn a new language using a second language but once we got on a path, it's really easy for me to tell the computer what to do and easier for me to share my thoughts with others because before when I wanted to share my thought with others I had to understand American English culture, I had to learn how to say in American speaking, "all right, all right" like this. But for computer core programming talk is cheap, show me the code. I think that is really explanatory and for the time I spent for classes, assignments most time it's like 2 to 4 hours for one week class for assignments and another 1 to 2 hours for preparation, like a review- preview and for task preparation, I think as long as you follow the path you finish an assignment, it won't take you more than half a day. You just draw a diagram and the structure of the class and you'll have your way.
It's really hard for me to find the best part. I think all parts are best like we have the best faculty, resources, alumni and networking. But what I really like about our program is we have a project which is embedded in our whole project is called Capital Project. In that project where we got a lot of companies where they're presenting their actual life problems to us and then we try our best to use our skills learned in school to help them to solve their problem. I think that's really amazing. I'm really looking forward to doing that.
